Mastro Woodworking & Design

Custom Woodworking and Fine Furniture

Classes

I have taught woodworking classes in the Seattle area for over 20 years at The Center for Wooden Boats, Woodcraft, The Woodworkers Store, and as a guest lecturer for The Woodworking Shows when they were in Seattle. My teaching has always centered on using hand tools along with wooden hand plane making. Since I have always enjoyed teaching - Mastro is Italian for teacher - I would like to continue doing that here in Lewiston.

Types of Classes

  • One on One
This is strictly geared to each individual's needs and is based solely on your level of knowledge and what you would like to learn.
  • Small classes limited to 3
I have a series of Saturday classes scheduled for each month to cover basic woodworking subjects such as tool basics, dove tails, mortise & tenon joinery to name a few.

Saturday Classes at the Ranch

  • Dovetails
Through dovetailIn this class we will cover dovetails in all their variations, half blind, through, mitered, and then cut a through dovetail after we cover the bases. Sat. March, 27 - 9am to 1pm Limit 3 students $40/session
  • Building a Wooden Hand Plane
PlaneIn this class we will build a Krenov style wooden hand plane. Ever been frustrated with a hand plane you owned but didn't work as well as you would like?  Well I know how to fix that.... Build your own. You will need to furnish a blade and wood blank for the plane and if needed I can help you with both, then in one class we will build it and you will be using it that afternoon. Sat. April 10, 9am to 1pm Limit 3 students $40.00 plus $50 for materials (blade & plane block)
  • Design and use of Joinery              Now that we have learned a few joints we should learn how to use them to build something. That is what this class will deal with. We will talk about design and then each student will design a piece they will build in the ensuing classes. The schedule will be determined by the class as to how often we will meet to finish the project. Sat. April 24 9am to 1pm Limit 3 students $40.00
