I have taught woodworking classes in the Seattle area for over 20 years at The Center for Wooden Boats, Woodcraft, The Woodworkers Store, and as a guest lecturer for The Woodworking Shows when they were in Seattle. My teaching has always centered on using hand tools along with wooden hand plane making. Since I have always enjoyed teaching - Mastro is Italian for teacher - I would like to continue doing that here in Joseph.

I think I have come to live in a special place and would like to share that with people as well as my knowledge of the woodworking art. I can't think of a better place to do this than here, so I will be offering classes here in my studio in Joseph.

I know this is kind of an out of the way destination so I am not expecting people to beat down my door to get here. If you live in the Pacific Northwest or are planning a trip to this area, however, I hope you will consider joining me for a week of hands-on learning.

Making a handplane would be a must!

I would suggest you bring what ever hand tools you have. Of course, we will discuss what you would like to learn in that week so that I can tailor a course to fit your needs. I offer that we could study what ever it is you would be interested in learning with an emphasis on sharpening and using your hand tools. There are many choices of things we could build that would put your skills to use and it would depend on your skill level and what you would feel comfortable doing. I would suggest that making a wooden hand plane would be a must. You can then use it to build another project of your choice while you are here.
