Joseph, Oregon

Joseph, Oregon is located in N. E. Oregon at the base of the Wallowa Mountains. It is the gateway to the Eagle Cap Wilderness and home of Wallowa Lake Oregon. Wallowa County is home to a wealth of history. The history of the Nez Perce whose story of their eviction from this unparalleled homeland in 1877 and their fighting retreat almost to the border of Canada continues to claim the attention of the world.

This county is also home to a wealth of art being created by local artists, many of them attracted by three major fine arts foundries, and which has caused Joseph to be proclaimed one of the top 100 art towns in the United States.

Why Joseph?

I was introduced to this area of Oregon by my ex-wife Sarah who was most recently from Bend, Oregon and had only moved to Seattle long enough to meet me. After meeting me and deciding to marry me she couldn't get out of Seattle soon enough.

So over a Labor Day weekend she suggested we go to Joseph and take a look. She really wanted to get back to Oregon and this is one of the places she looked at when she finally moved to Bend.

Well I just fell in love with the little town and its location

Well I just fell in love with the little town and its location. As you can see by the pictures we are nestled at the foot of the beautiful Wallowa Mountains at the bottom of Chief Joseph Mt. at 9,500 ft. We get our share of snow here and it does get below 0 for a few weeks a year. We see a few weeks in the summer where temperatures reach into the high 90's but mostly it's sunny and fair both winter and summer. That's a big change from Seattle and this is also the first time in my life I've lived in a small town. Well I just love it.

I will soon be teaching classes here in my shop so I wanted to let anyone who is interested in learning woodworking in a friendly one on one atmosphere that there is more than a few good reasons to think about coming to this area.

Great weather, great views everywhere you look, great fishing on the Wallowa and Grande Ronde rivers, and great hiking in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. There are several nice bed & breakfasts located in and around Joseph. The well respected Bronze Antler is just across the street and there are several more within walking distance.
